Brief Bio
Dr. Marjahan Begum is interested in number of areas in Computer Science. Her core research interests are in Psychology of Programming, Computer Science and Software Engineering. She is particularly interested in reasonings applied in problems that requires algorithmic thinking. misconceptions in key concepts, how software engineering education can reflect the needs of the industry. She is actively involved in promoting women and minorities in CS education through her outreach work. For example since 2023 – She has been collaborating with Smallpiece Trust (https://www.smallpeicetrust.org.uk/) to deliver a successful programme to promote Women in Stem through an 3 days online programme. Most recently she is a CO-I for a 9M EPSRC grant for the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Diversity in Data Visualization. Her role is with the recruitment team to ensure cohort is diverse in terms of discipline and background and to ensure recruitment processes and students’ journey are inclusive and support PhD students succeeding project that have impact on our society.
Ambitions for the London ACM-W Chapter
London ACM-W Chapter’s has been in the pipeline of Dr. Begum since May 2023. The plan initiated during inauguration of the Women++ in City St George’s University of London, Department of Computer Science. Finally, with excitement, she is pleased at the launch of first ACM-W Chapter in London in 2025. She is very excited by this to bring together a like minded community to just make this space collaborative, inclusive, developmental and fun!!
